Over the last two years, Charter has helped a major Calgary service provider dramatically improve their competitive edge by building on their existing technology to include greater connectivity and complexity in their service offerings.

The provider, which sells bandwidth, has worked with Charter during the past five years to expand and maintain their existing layer 1 optical and layer 2 Ethernet switching infrastructure. While this was working well for them, the customer wanted to build in more flexibility to enable them to provide virtual private networks (VPNs) at Layer 2 and Layer 3 to the large companies they work with in the Calgary metropolitan area..

Charter provided a turnkey solution featuring an MPLS (multi-protocol labeled switching) network that enabled the customer to implement more complex, connectivity-rich, custom-built service offerings. Charter’s role spanned that of trusted adviser as they assessed multiple vendor offerings, through design, training, installation and support. Procurement of the product occurred in 2006, with the installation phase in 2007.

Account Manager Neil McGinnis describes the process: “We completely developed and staged the network at our Calgary facility, as well as training their people there. The day after their facilities were ready to go, we installed the routers, connected and tested the network, and went into production. We are now following up with ongoing technical support.”

This transformative installation features Charter’s trademark outstanding service at every step of the way – from consultation to enhancement, not only of our customer’s network, but of their business success.
